The challenge
As part of its program to increase capacity at a strategic production site, Volvo needed to quickly outsource the production of a key welded component. This outsourcing was necessary to free up industrial space at their site while maintaining very high standards in terms of quality and delivery times.
They therefore entrusted Hexalean with the task of reintegrating this production into our own site to ensure a smooth and secure transition, while meeting their need for scalability and OTD performance.
Our solution
Creation of dedicated robotic production islands
We created robotic production islands specifically for Volvo, enabling capacity expansion while ensuring consistent quality and flexible production. This solution enabled continuous flow production while maximizing process efficiency.
Development of a specific quality system
A dedicated quality system has been put in place to manage the entire production flow, from the receipt of raw materials to
JIT (Just-in-Time). This system not only ensures compliance with Volvo’s strict quality standards, but also optimal management of deadlines.
Complete workflow management
We took charge of the entire flow management process, from manufacturing to direct delivery to the Volvo factory. This approach reduced intermediate stocks, ensured uninterrupted deliveries, and met Volvo’s very high OTD requirements.
Dedicated cross-functional team
To meet this challenge, we put together a cross-functional team dedicated to this project, including experts in production, logistics, and quality.
This team ensured the success of the scale-up and the efficient management of production for Volvo. This group is now a permanent team
at our company, ensuring continuity and continuous improvement of processes.Commitment to an economic productivity program
We have honored our commitment to economic productivity through a process of continuous improvement, enabling
maintaining competitive costs while improving the quality and flexibility of production for Volvo.
Results obtained
Successful reintegration of production
- We have successfully reintegrated 100% of the production of the mechanically welded component for Volvo into our facilities, while ensuring rapid and secure scalability of the production process.
Significant improvement in OTD
- Thanks to the implementation of our robotic islands and our flow management system, we have succeeded in meeting Volvo’s very high OTD requirements, ensuring just-in-time deliveries and reducing delays.
Reduction in production costs
- The robotic system and flow optimization have reduced production costs while improving efficiency. Optimized flow management has also helped reduce inventory and logistics costs.
Customer satisfaction and strengthened partnership
- Cost reduction, improved quality, and delivery reliability have strengthened our partnership with Volvo, which now benefits from our expertise for its large-scale production needs.
Growth in business for Hexalean
- Thanks to this success, Hexalean has not only strengthened its partnership with Volvo, but has also expanded its customer portfolio in the field of mechanically welded component production.
Conclusion
The reintegration of production for Volvo, accompanied by the implementation of dedicated robotic systems, has successfully met their need for scalability and high OTD requirements. This collaboration has not only enabled Volvo to gain industrial space and maintain its deadlines, but has also strengthened our
position as a strategic partner and technological innovator.
The project also proved that continuous improvement and cost optimization are key levers for delivering economic competitiveness while ensuring impeccable quality.
