The challenge
As part of an international sporting event held in Paris in 2024, GL events was tasked with installing temporary grandstands that complied with very strict environmental requirements. The goal was to reduce the carbon footprint of the grandstands while maintaining the strength, safety, and ease of assembly essential for this type of installation.
Our solution
Replacement of a fully hot-dip galvanized floor with Magnélis® steel sheet
As a substitute for traditional galvanized steel parts, we have chosen, in collaboration with GL events, Magnélis®, a material that has a lower carbon footprint, is highly resistant to outdoor corrosion, prevents oxidation on the edges (and therefore ages
better) and remains just as strong.Automation of signage
By automating the paneling process, we have reduced the number of operations while ensuring the mechanical strength of the parts.
Results obtained
Reducing the carbon footprint of grandstands
- Thanks to the choice of Magnélis® and an optimized design, the stands were constructed with a minimal environmental footprint, in line with the organizing committee’s requirements.
Increased component life
- These Magnélis® floors offer a much longer lifespan than wood, thereby reducing the need for replacement.
More eco-friendly stands
- This collaboration has helped GL events evolve its offering towards more responsible solutions, in line with its CSR commitments and objectives.
Stronger collaboration
- This project has strengthened the collaboration between Hexalean and GL events, opening the door to new technical and environmental developments.
Conclusion
After a year of joint work, this project contributed to the success of a major international event. Thanks to the use of more responsible materials and improvements to our industrial processes, GL events was able to replace its entire stock of flooring and risers with solutions that are lighter, more durable, more environmentally friendly, and compliant with the standards of major sporting competitions.
